Applied for a senior mobile developer job. Had a first telephonic interview that went well. Then had a virtual coding round. Was slow to get follow-up for a month, then received an email about a hiring slowdown but that they were ready to proceed if I was still interested. Decided to continue. Cleared the coding round and moved to a final panel interview with 3 rounds: paired programming, app design, and behavioral. After the interview, there was again no communication for a week. After some follow-ups, I was told I cleared but there was another hiring slowdown and no business clearance. The next day, they decided to close the position. Strange to go through the whole process and not get an offer.

Behavioral Technical Coding System Design
So I had a phone call first, like 10-15 mins, just a quick chat about why I wanted to work at Venmo and what my interests are. Then they invited me for a technical interview. I went to their office and had three interviews back-to-back with different engineers. All of them were pretty casual, dressed in t-shirts and jeans. The first engineer just talked about my past projects and interests, and asked about the toughest bug I've ever encountered and why. The second one asked about the algorithms I'm most familiar with, then had me code one on paper (back of my resume!) and explain its time complexity. The last engineer didn't ask too many questions but put me in front of a whiteboard to come up with an algorithm for Minimum Edit Distance (also known as Levenshtein distance).

Overall the experience was average. I was flown out to their NY office but was never reimbursed for my travel expenses. I contacted them about this and was left hanging. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT TRAVEL TO THE NY OFFICE AND INTERVIEW. ITS POSSIBLE YOU WILL END UP HAVING TO PAY FOR EXPENSES OUT OF YOUR OWN POCKET. This company prides itself as a world class payment processor, but can't pay out travel expenses to their candidates. Oh, the irony.
