First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vencore.
Java Developer
So, first thing they did was ask me to submit a Java project. I just sent in one I had done a while back. After that, I had an onsite interview. It felt like it went pretty well; there were 4 interviewers, though only one was actually asking me questions, the other three were just kinda there taking notes. About a week after that, they emailed me saying they didn't have the budget for the role anymore and wished me well.
- They asked a Java coding question where I had to provide pseudo code to demonstrate my coding skills.
Financial Analyst
I applied on the company website and a few weeks later, a talent acquisition specialist reached out. They asked me some questions to gauge my fit for the role before scheduling an interview for the following week. The interview was with the department manager. She mostly spoke during the interview, but did ask some basic questions about my previous work experience. I was offered the job about a month after the interview. The delay was due to the manager being on a two-week vacation.
- Can you discuss your previous work experience?
Analyst
The interview process was quite relaxed and informal, mainly because I had a connection at the company. They seem to be good to their employees. A downside is that contract work doesn't guarantee long-term employment. My advice is to make yourself indispensable to the Program Managers. I didn't get this specific job, but later I had the chance to join as a subcontractor on a different contract. The pay was decent and the managers are nice.
- In what ways do you think your skills would be most beneficial to the team lead?
Business Systems Analyst
The interview process was quite different. Due to the classified nature of the work on each program, the interviewers couldn't disclose specifics about the actual job duties. It felt a bit awkward and challenging because of this lack of clarity. The conversation mostly revolved around my past experiences, my capacity to collaborate with others, and my adaptability to learning new things.
- Considering your military experience, could you describe the highest management level (rank) you've presented to or regularly collaborated with?
- With your IT background, how would you describe the scope of your training and IT capabilities?
