It was a mix of phone and in-person interviews. The phone call was about 45 minutes, and the in-person meeting was about 1.5 hours. The interviewers, who seemed to be younger owners, were mainly looking for recent college graduates. Most of the questions, about 80%, were about my time in college, even though it's been over a decade since I graduated. They didn't really focus on my 10+ years of experience in the field.

Behavioral Other

It was a quick hiring process. They hire you based on how much they like you and if you're young, they don't really care about your work experience. If Katie is interviewing you, you better look like her or you won't get hired. My gut feeling about this place being racist was correct.

Presentation Other

I applied online and had a virtual interview, followed by an in-office one. They were clear about their goals for the role, and everyone was welcoming. The final step involved creating a couple of spec pieces relevant to their industry. I think it's a great way to assess fit for both sides. They provided updates throughout the process, which was appreciated. It was evident that Velo places a high value on hiring and building a strong team.

I had a screening call with the recruiter, where we went over standard intake information and they explained the company culture. They were very transparent about the importance of the role and the organizational need. They also explained why the previous person in the role left and the type of personalities that are successful in the organization.
