The interview process started with two initial conversations with an SVP and a Director of Product, which were pleasant and non-technical. Following these, I was given a take-home project to complete within a week. While I typically decline such assignments on principle, I made an exception due to my positive interactions and genuine interest in the role. Although they allowed a week, I limited my time to 8 hours due to my full-time job and other ongoing interviews. The project brief was somewhat vague, but it suggested including mockups, which I did. During the presentation phase, the interviewers focused intensely on minute details of the mockups and wanted to delve into granular data modeling. I lacked sufficient information to perform this modeling, and when I requested clarification, they abruptly ended the question and moved on. I had anticipated a discussion focused on higher-level aspects like my process, the persona I developed, and the bigger picture, given the nature of the assigned project. The sudden demand for such specific detail was unexpected and unachievable given the brief's ambiguity and my time constraints. It seemed they were dissatisfied, as they became quiet and appeared to be communicating privately during the rest of my presentation. When I asked for feedback at the end, they simply said, "No, thanks, bye" and disconnected. This experience was peculiar and significantly diminished my interest in the position. The following day, I received a standard automated rejection email. I've since seen similar accounts from other candidates, confirming it was likely a situation I'm better off avoiding.

The interviewer seemed more focused on my university experience than my professional background, which was a bit surprising given I have under two years of experience post-graduation and the job only asked for one year of relevant experience. Some questions, like 'What was the last non-fiction book you read?', felt a little out of left field, and the interviewer didn't elaborate. Even though they expressed some uncertainty about my experience, they invited me back for a second interview. This second chat was cut short after about 20 minutes, and again, the questions didn't seem to fit the role. I wish I'd received more helpful feedback instead of just hearing that they were unsure about me.

The interview process started with a phone interview, then two in-person interviews. I also had to complete a take-home assignment, which is something I have mixed feelings about. It was a professional process overall. What I really appreciated was getting feedback afterwards, even though it was a rejection, which is more than I can say for many companies.
