First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Varsity Tutors.
Principal Product Manager
My interview experience was odd. They don't stick to timelines. I was referred and told they'd contact me the next day, but it took over a week. After the second interview, I was told I'd hear back by the end of the week, but it took two weeks. The hiring manager interview was messy. He hadn't read my resume and explained basic marketplace concepts, despite my extensive experience. He was late, interrupted my intro, and we ran out of time. He said he'd move me forward, but two weeks later a recruiter sent a generic email about their competitive process. I wouldn't reapply. Maybe try outside the product team.
- Can you elaborate on your resume details?
- Can you tell me more about what's on your resume?
Principal Product Manager
Got an email saying my profile was good. Then a recruiter call. First step was a product assignment. Submitted it about a week later and did a presentation on it. Had peers and mentors check my work beforehand. Got feedback three days after the presentation. The process was okay, but the feedback from the hiring manager was rude and unprofessional. They just took the ideas and criticized without understanding. My outline was mapped to their questions, but they didn't like the images. Calling my work 'fluff' was disrespectful. They're outsourcing ideas via case studies, which seems to be a pattern. They should talk to candidates directly instead of sending anonymous feedback through the recruiter.

- Suggest three big hypotheses for boosting the competitor's conversion, plus a test idea for each.
Product Manager
I went through two interviews. First, I spoke with the company's president and COO. Then, I had an interview with the CPO, which was challenging because of the case study. However, the CPO was very nice throughout.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Could you devise a solution for the instant class scheduler?
