I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn because I was a passive candidate. We had a 25-minute call, and they thought I was a good fit. They mentioned the next steps would be interviews with the hiring manager and then 2-4 other team members, which seemed pretty standard. Following that, I received an email from the TA coordinator with potential interview times with the hiring manager. Unfortunately, all the available slots were between 4-5 am my time, which was the first indicator of a poor candidate experience. I managed to secure a decent time, but it was over two weeks away. I asked for an earlier slot, but then got another email pushing it back even further, the second sign of a disorganized process. The day before the scheduled interview, the recruiter emailed me to say they had already hired someone else. I replied saying no problem and took care. Then, on the day the interview was supposed to happen, I received another rejection email from the recruiter! To top it off, three days later, I got a third rejection email from the system. It seems like a disorganized company that didn't put much thought into the candidate experience, especially when reaching out to passive candidates.

I applied twice for this role. First, I sent my resume but got an email saying I wasn't a match. I was confused so I researched what credentials were needed. I looked at other directors' profiles and saw I had similar or even more experience and qualifications. So I reapplied, mentioning in my cover letter that I'd done my research and was qualified. I got an email and scheduled an interview. It was very short and vague, like they were just giving me an interview because I had points about my qualifications. I got an email soon after saying they weren't moving forward, which was disappointing as I still want to work there.

After submitting my resume, I was quickly contacted. I had an initial phone interview and a second phone interview with current directors. Next, I had an in-person interview with a different director. My final interview was in-person with the CEO. I was offered the position and started my new job shortly after.
