Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Varonis Systems.
Pre-Sales Engineer
Interviews went on for about four weeks. I talked to HR, Sales Manager, VP of Sales, and the Regional Sales Manager. The process was pretty long, which was alright. It felt like the senior and front-line managers weren't really on the same page with the questions they asked, and it seemed like they didn't communicate with each other. The in-person meeting with the RSM was weird, not friendly at all and made me uncomfortable. I just got a feeling of arrogance and they had a rude tone and body language. The Varonis Systems staff I met with were not welcoming and didn't try to sell me on the company culture at all. It was all about numbers. I was really put off, and they didn't seem to like my out-of-the-box ideas about the sales process and the SE role. What was really rude and surprising was that I never got a simple 'thank you for your time, but we decided on another candidate' email. I took time off from my day and my current job to meet with this company, and the lack of basic courtesy really shows their true colors.

Pre-Sales Engineer
So first up was a recruiter call, just checking basic knowledge like the difference between a network share and a file share. Then I spoke with the SE Manager, who would be my boss. It was a pretty basic interview, and he seemed like a good guy. Next, I had a phone interview with the Regional Sales VP, which felt more like a personality check. After that, I met face-to-face with the Regional Sales VP again, and it was a really good conversation; he's a charismatic and driven Sales Director. The fifth interview was with the VP of World Wide Field Engineering, who would be my second-line manager. This was a good one where we got into the nitty-gritty of the job and how to use the product. I thought that was it, but then they told me I had to do a 15-minute technical pitch on any topic. This is where things took a turn. They told me the topic was open, but it turned out not to be. They mentioned they deal with enterprises, and when I chose a home automation topic, one of the Varonis staff interrupted me, saying I picked a consumer product and wasn't selling *their* product. He then ended the call abruptly, which left me pretty confused since everyone else seemed to acknowledge the product's benefits. My main issues with this process were that they initially said the pitch topic was open, but it wasn't, and they asked for my industry contacts early on, which felt suspicious and like they were just trying to gather leads during the interviews.
- Could you explain the distinction between a file share and a network share?
Presales Engineer
3 interviews were conducted, including a case study. The first interview was a classic Q&A about past experiences. The second involved a demo and answering questions. The third was an HR interview.
