First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Varonis Systems.
Software Engineer
The interview process was really good and professional. First, I talked to the group manager. They had me describe a past system and then design a new one. Next was a coding test, not too hard if you can code efficiently. The HR interview was at their really nice offices. We had a great chat, and I learned more about the company. I then asked to chat with the group lead again for project specifics, which sounds really cool. I took another job in the end, but honestly, I wish I could have taken this one too.
- Can you complete a Python exercise, writing a recursive function, to check basic programming ability?
- Can you describe the design of a system you worked on previously?
Software Engineer
The interview process at Varonis was thorough, involving 3 interviews. It started with an introduction to the company, the role, and daily responsibilities. This was followed by questions about my past roles, how they related to the position I was applying for, and discussions covering technologies, system design, and coding challenges. Finally, there were interviews with management and HR.
- How would you design a backend system for managing a workflow of operations?
Software Engineer
The interview process was quite long, with 5 interviews in total. There were 3 programming interviews, one with HR, and one with the group manager. The programming interviews were fair and the interviewers were nice. The manager interview was fine. The HR interview was a bad experience though; the interviewer seemed to really want me to say bad things about myself. She also asked about old stuff, like why I chose computer science over 20 years ago. I had a feeling they wouldn't offer me the job, but the HR person called me a week later saying they were impressed and to let them know if I got another offer. It took another week for the final rejection.
- How would you compare strings under specific conditions, such as considering the order of characters?
- How would you compare strings assuming the string contains only lowercase letters (a-z)?
