First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Varian Medical Systems.
Manufacturing Technician
An agency reached out about a technician II role and I expressed interest. Had a phone interview with the manager, who then invited me for an in-person meeting. During the face-to-face, I was given a skills test where I built an assembly with another manager, lead manager, or tech. They also gave me a tour of the manufacturing area. After the skills test, the hiring manager showed me around more.
- The tough part was demonstrating my interest and qualifications for the job. It took about 10 days from the in-person interview to my start date. Background check and drug test were cleared, and I'm now employed at Varian.
Field Service Technician
the interview process really depends on the specific location. In some places, it's just two interviews: one with the hiring manager and another with someone who currently does the job (your potential future coworker). But in other areas, you might end up having as many as five interviews. The most frustrating part is the complete lack of feedback. You never know how you performed, and they might not get back to you for over a month.
- Can you answer some troubleshooting questions related to electronics, RF, or computers?
- Tell me about a challenging customer interaction you've had and how you managed it.
Manufacturing Technician
They found my resume on a job board. We did a short phone screening, then I went in for one interview. They gave me a rating and then made their decision. It was one of the most relaxed interviews I've ever had. Mostly, we just talked, with a question thrown in now and then.
- What makes you think you'd be a good fit for this role and our company?
