& Process

The recruiter was unresponsive to emails prior to the interview, and then didn't show up for our first scheduled meeting without any heads-up. We had to reschedule, and even then, they were 10 minutes late. We chatted about my resume and what I've done that's relevant, but then they told me I don't meet the requirements. Despite this, the interviewer seemed like a decent person.

I was contacted by an executive recruiter about my interest in the role. After that, I went through multiple rounds of interviews. The hardest part of the whole experience was how poorly they communicated. The recruiter would tell me specific dates for updates, but then those dates would pass with no word. I ended up having to reach out myself most of the time. It felt like ghosting sometimes, only to find out later that I had advanced. I really hope they work on improving their communication with candidates.

I had my first interview in early September, which was mostly about my past job experience and my interest in the lab technician role. About a week after that, I was contacted for a technical interview that lasted about an hour and also seemed to go well, with many situational questions. Roughly a month later, I was invited for an onsite interview where I met the team I'd be working with and the CEO. I prepared and gave an hour-long presentation to the team, followed by more interviews with groups of two people. The entire onsite part took about 4 hours and included lunch and an interview focused on the facility. I thought everything went great and was told I'd hear back within a week. After that week passed, I followed up and got an automated email saying I didn't get the job and wasn't qualified. It was pretty disappointing, especially after meeting the CEO and several team members. I felt it was rude to get an automated rejection after taking a day off for the interviews and facility tour, and after going through a nearly 3-month process. I would have expected a more timely and personal response rather than an automated one.

I had 6 rounds for this role. The 3rd round was a technical interview, the 4th was a test, and the 5th was a coding review. I'm currently on the coding review now. The test itself wasn't too difficult, it was like a typical LeetCode question. The only downside was that there weren't many test cases provided, and you only get one submission. This means you really have to build your own robust test cases to make sure your code works, which can be a pain with the time limits because you can't really test the efficiency with large inputs if you spend too much time debugging.
