First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Valu Home Centers.
Associate
I applied in person and had an in-store interview with two managers. It was a pretty relaxed chat, lasting about twenty minutes. They asked about my availability, flexibility, and preferred work hours. They made it clear that prior hardware, electrical, or plumbing experience wasn't necessary if I was willing to learn.
- What are your career aspirations for the next six months to a year?
- What makes you the best candidate for this position and why are you interested in working for Valu?
- What is your desired number of work hours per week?
Assistant Manager
They were more interested in what I could bring to the company and getting their promises in writing.
- What are your expectations from the business?
Floor Manager
I had two interviews. The first was with the District Manager, and the second was with the District Manager and the VP of Operations. Looking back, my interviewers did a great job of preparing me for success and telling me everything I needed to know to start my career at Valu on the right track. They also gave me a clear picture of what to expect from working here.
- Since we can teach you the hardware aspects, would you say you're the kind of person who enjoys assisting customers and helping them with their projects?
Sales Associate
The interview was super quick and easy. They asked some pretty good questions about my high school schedule. The managers who interviewed me were really nice. I also had to take a personality type quiz during the interview.
- Can you perform basic mental math?
