Behavioral Technical Presentation

I went through a full multi-stage interview process for a Senior UX Researcher position at Valtech. From the first screening to the final stage, all feedback about my skills, industry experience, and project work was consistently good and confirmed to be a match for the job. No issues with my abilities were ever brought up. Specifically, after the second interview with the UXR team, they unprompted told me they saw lead potential in me, based on my profile. Then, I got an email from Valtech saying I could reach Lead seniority within a year, calling it realistic and expected. I then asked a direct question about the Lead pathway in my follow-up email, as a natural response to what the hiring team had already said. This question was then used as the main reason for my rejection, claimed to show a “misalignment” in Lead ambitions, even though Valtech brought up the Lead ambition first. My qualifications and experience were never the problem; they were consistently praised. The rejection was based solely on a guess about my future motivation, stemming from a question that only arose because Valtech initiated the topic. A candidate shouldn't be penalized for honestly answering based on information the company shared. So, if you're a strong, ambitious senior professional, be warned: talking about career goals, even when the company prompts and encourages it, can be used against you. Valtech’s final stage process doesn't fairly assess demonstrated skills. Instead, it punishes honesty and makes judgments based on assumptions, not proof. I hope this helps future candidates decide where to spend their time.

The interviewer was really receptive and explained all the job details. There were several stages, and the whole selection process took at least a month. Even though it took a while, everything was clear, and they kept the feedback dates they gave.

Had a great experience with the HR folks, they were really nice, understanding and empathetic. In the interview with the senior person, I got a bit more nervous, but the interviewer was very respectful. I had to do a presentation of my portfolio (a project I created in college), the interviewer asked relevant questions and was patient.
