Digital Project Manager
We started with a screening interview with HR. Then there were multiple mini-interviews with the Manager, Creative, and Technology folks. It felt a little redundant, but each person had about 15 minutes to ask specific questions about how we'd work together. Finally, there was a presentation interview where I showed my past works and answered some questions. It wasn't much to prepare if you have some past projects on hand to pull up and discuss in depth.
- Regarding budgets and team time management, how do you approach these areas?
Project Manager
I applied on LinkedIn and got a call from the recruiter for a quick chat. Then, I was invited for an onsite interview. It was supposed to be with 4 people, but one was out, so I met with 3: a PM director, an SME, and a business analyst. It was a long 1-on-1 discussion where I talked about how I manage projects and what I know, basically reiterating my CV. After the interviews, the recruiter gave me a tour. They said I'd hear back next week. Two weeks went by, so I called the recruiter, and he set up a quick call with the hiring manager. The manager missed the first meeting due to a fire drill. We rescheduled, and we talked for about 30 minutes about my PM style and experience. He said Valtech would let me know in a few days. I followed up a couple of times over the next few weeks, but heard nothing. After a month of silence, I reached out again because I had another offer. This time, the recruiter told me they were putting the position on hold until next year. All this time I was waiting, they weren't hiring. The follow-up was really poor.
- What CMS platforms are you familiar with?
- Can you describe your project management methodology?
- What is your knowledge regarding [specific domain]?
Project Manager
HR organised the interview over Skype. It was pretty thorough, covering my background, how I manage teams and clients, how I operate in an agency environment (which they thought might not suit me), and how they work internally. I got a good sense of the culture too. It was a negative experience though, because they said they'd follow up but never did, not even when I chased them. If they weren't interested, fine, but a professional company should at least let you know!
- How would you handle a project that's exceeding its budget and is unlikely to finish on time?
