Valtech Consultant Interview Questions
& Process

I applied on LinkedIn and got a call the next day. The interview was scheduled for two days later. There were two rounds in total. I passed the first technical round, and then they set up my second round. In the second round, the interviewer seemed unprepared, asking about my resume. Then they asked questions outside my field. Their voice was unclear, and despite me pointing it out, they ignored it and paused for 5 minutes after each of my answers. I've had many interviews, but this was really bad. If I apply for a role, I expect questions relevant to it, but instead, the interviewer asked questions outside my domain, leading to my rejection. Valtech should really consider this feedback.

After applying, there were two interviews, one with a more senior person. Depending on the job and skills needed, they used either a case study, a test, or other methods to assess what I could do. After the interviews, if they made an offer, we talked about the details and negotiated them, which also varied based on the position and level.

So I got contacted by Hugh James from Mortimer Sprinks who told me about this job. They really liked the company and gave me a coding assignment and we set up a phone interview. I was happy they wanted me to use GitHub. The phone interview was great, it felt like a real conversation but they were still checking me out. It wasn't like they had a script. We went through my CV and talked about stuff. It took a couple weeks to get a face-to-face interview because I'm in the UK and they had to figure out travel and schedules, which was the only annoying part. We eventually set a date and I went to the Valtech UK HQ. This was another technical interview where I had to do a hands-on test. I had some Java classes to finish and some unit tests to fix, and I had to explain my thought process. The interviewer was helpful and we had good discussions. I also had to show architecture diagrams from past projects and we talked about CI and deployment. After that, there was a final interview to see if I'd fit in. We talked about my CV at a higher level, my plans to move to England, and some methodologies. I also got to ask about training, conferences, and travel.
