& Process

The interview took about 1.5 hours. First, I met with the Program Director and the supervisor for the Life Skills Counselor role. We discussed the job and the agency. Then, they asked me about 8-10 questions about my qualifications and how I'd handle specific scenarios. After that, I had to complete a writing sample. I was given a brief paragraph describing a 'potential client' situation and asked to write down how I would manage it.

I spoke with two managers from the department for the first interview, one was uptight, the other more relaxed. After sending a thank you email, I had a second interview with the program director, which was more like a conversation and lasted about an hour. The director offered me the position at the end.

I applied online and heard back from an administrative assistant within 3 weeks. They were polite and quick with emails/calls, but the instructions in the email were unclear. It sounded like there would be two separate interviews: a group one about the agency and then a one-on-one with a supervisor. This wasn't the case - both happened on the same day. When I got there, I had to fill out forms with info already on my resume and give references, even though the email said references weren't needed until the second interview. I was then asked back for a second interview, which was supposed to be a mock session where I'd present on a service or program. But, the supervisor wanted the mock session to be about soliciting volunteers or donations from a business/donor, which was different from the email instructions. I didn't get called back after that, which I was relieved about.

The interview process was easy and the interviewer was very nice. We talked about my experience and also the training. Because I could not attend the original training, she offered me another option which was helpful.
