Behavioral Other

The manager who interviewed me was aggressive and negative. They gave me the side eye when I first walked in. They asked me age-related questions that felt discriminatory. They told me I would have to make recipe suggestions to customers and asked what recipes I would recommend. I've shopped at this store for years and no cashier has ever suggested recipes to me. I felt very discriminated against because of my age and race.

Behavioral Other

I had five interviews with them. The first person said to reach out to them via email or text if I had any questions, so I did. No response. The third person told me the same thing, so I did, no response. I reached out to the first person again and no response. I then reached out to the recruiter and finally got the generic no thank you letter. I called the first person I interviewed with, who I thought I had built some kind of a relationship with and was told he could not talk to me, I had to talk to HR. It was frustrating to spend all that time and not get some kind of communication.

I got a call for a phone interview where they asked tough questions about Uwajimaya and my past experience. It was about 15-20 mins, then she said she'd talk to her manager about my schedule and I'd hear back. Two days later, I had a second interview with two managers. One asked all the questions while the other watched, which was a bit nerve-wracking, but he was nice afterward and we talked. They liked that I speak Japanese and know the culture/cuisine. After questions, they conferred briefly (super stressful 5 mins!). Then they returned, offered me the job, and gave me paperwork. Everyone was really nice and accommodating, and it all went smoothly! Background checks are next, and they'll call in a week for orientation.

The hiring process began with a phone interview, followed by a team interview. It was a straightforward process. During the first part of the interview, I introduced myself and answered some questions about my background. The second part focused on major-related questions.
