So, the hiring process usually starts with a quick chat with a recruiter to go over your background, why you're interested, and the basics. After that, you'll likely have a few interviews where they ask you about your experiences and also some technical or problem-solving questions related to the job. Sometimes they'll give you a skills test or a case study to see what you can do. The later interviews might be with a panel or the hiring manager, where they check if you'd be a good fit for the team and how you communicate and handle tough situations. If everything goes well, they'll give you an offer, first verbally, then in writing, and sometimes they need to do a background or reference check.

I applied and a recruiter reached out to schedule a 3-hour onsite interview. It was a bit strange to be called in for 3 hours without even a phone screen first. On the day, there were three one-hour interviews: one with the hiring manager, one with a peer, and one with two people who would report to me. Each interviewer asked one behavioral question, like 'tell me about a time you had a conflict with the team.' The rest were about my past experience and if I'd be a good fit. The whole thing was 3 hours with no break, and no one even offered water. I followed up with the recruiter several times after, but didn't hear anything concrete for over 3 months, when I was told I didn't get the job. The hiring manager had mentioned on interview day that they were interviewing others and would decide in a couple of weeks.

I interviewed with 5 people from the surgery department and thought it went really well. The physicians all responded positively to my thank you notes. Two weeks after the last interview, I emailed my contact in surgery, but got no reply. A week after that, I emailed again and still heard nothing. So, I reached out to HR four weeks after my last interview to check on my application status. Then, just last week, 8 weeks after my last interview, I saw on my candidate profile that I was 'not selected.' I had figured that out weeks ago. I still haven't heard anything from UVA Medical Center, and I think it would have been courteous to be told my status directly. It was incredibly unprofessional.

HR Recruiter reached out to me really fast after I applied. They scheduled an interview with the Recruiter and the Director of Recruitment. I thought it went okay based on how they seemed, but they never replied. This is disappointing because I work in the same building and they couldn't even send a rejection message. It felt like a waste of my time. I'm planning to look for another job. I even sent thank you notes and didn't get any response to my questions. My application status was 'Interview Scheduled' for over a month, so I'm just going to withdraw my application.
