First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Utah Valley University.
Supplemental Instruction Coordinator
The interview process involved two rounds. The first round was a 30-minute interview with about 10 questions. The second interview included a 15-minute presentation followed by a 45-minute Q&A session with directors and stakeholders. Everyone was friendly, and the questions were mostly situational and behavioral.
- Can you describe a time you had to handle a conflict?
ERP Director
It was a 30-minute Zoom call with 5 people interviewing me. They didn't do any introductions or ask me to introduce myself. Each interviewer asked me 2 situational questions, and then it was over. I didn't get a chance to ask them any questions about the department or the team.
- How would you handle prioritizing projects when they are competing for the same resources and attention?
Administrative Assistant
I met with a panel of 3-4 people who asked me questions about my skills and how I handle difficult situations. It felt pretty relaxed and open, and everyone was really friendly. They looked over my application and resume and asked me to provide more detail on specific things listed there.
- Can you tell me about your skills?
- What makes you a good fit for this position?
- Are you able to hold a conversation?
Counselor
The first interview was a panel of 5 people. They asked about 9 questions in a row. A few days later, they called to schedule the second interview. The second interview was with the director and some supervisors. They asked about 6 questions back to back. It felt like two of the interviewers weren't really paying attention and were on their phones. When I tried to ask questions, they didn't seem very open to discussing them.
- Could you share your understanding of diversity and inclusion?
