First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Utah Retirement Systems.
Investment Analyst
The application process was pretty straightforward. I heard back about 3-4 weeks after applying. An HR person wanted to schedule an interview for the very next day, a 30-minute session, though there were other slots available. The panel was generally very welcoming and kept to the 30-minute timeframe, which felt a bit rushed for both answering questions and asking my own.
- Could you start by telling us about yourself?
- What motivated you to apply for this role, and what aspects are most exciting to you?
- Describe a podcast or TV show you've encountered that shifted your perspective, and explain the reasons behind it.
Actuarial
Had a 30-min phone interview set up a week prior. HR was the first point of contact before handing me off to someone from the Actuarial Department. They asked some basic questions and gave a brief overview of the potential job.
- How would you explain technical terms to someone without a specialized background?
Customer Service Representative
They gave me a ring within a week after I applied for a quick phone call. Later, about 2 weeks from then, they sent me an email for an interview, where I met 3 people. It was only 30 minutes and I think it went well. The very next day, they let me know they would be calling my references, which was also good news! I'm now waiting to hear back about everything. The whole thing might take up to 2 weeks after the interview.
- Can you describe a situation where you dealt with an angry customer and explain your approach?
Data Analyst
I had a phone screen with a recruiter, then a first-round interview with the recruiter and hiring manager. After that, there was a second-round interview with the recruiter, hiring manager, and department director. They also gave me an SQL coding test. URS has this wage formula that decides pay based mostly on how many years of experience you have. The recruiter mentioned they don't negotiate pay, so whatever they offer is pretty much it.
- Could you write the SQL code needed to extract information from these three provided data tables?
