I applied and then HR called to set up an in-person interview. Before that, I had to do this pre-recorded video interview that had the usual HR questions like strengths/weaknesses. It was kinda awkward. Then for the in-person, I met with HR and the hiring manager. Two days later, they called to schedule a second round. This time I met with three people who the job works closely with. They asked pretty basic questions. In total I met with 5 people which was cool because I got a good feel for the org. I felt good about the company after.

It was a pretty standard phone interview. When asked why I was interested in a part-time position, I mentioned I was also going to graduate school. The interviewer seemed concerned and repeatedly said she didn't think it would work with me also going to school. She even suggested I withdraw from school if offered the job. I eventually told her I thought we shouldn't continue talking as it wouldn't be a good fit, as I wasn't going to quit grad school for a $13/hour part-time job. She called back a few days later, but I still said it wouldn't be a good fit.

I sent in my resume and cover letter and the employment program manager reviewed it. If they liked it, I had an interview with the employment manager and site supervisor, which lasted about 30-40 minutes. They asked behavioral questions and about my knowledge of the Veteran and Active Duty Military process. If I passed that, I had a final interview with higher management, which felt like a formality. I answered more questions and then got an offer to review.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process at USO seemed to be set up beforehand with no real intention of hiring anyone. A lot of time was spent on a phone interview that felt way too intense. Then there was a virtual meeting and a chat with the hiring manager. Honestly, the whole thing felt like a waste of time and really unproductive. Lost my respect for USO.
