Store Manager
Prepare for real-life scenarios and you'll be good. Discuss all the steps you took in your plan, and if you could do something differently, what would it be? Be confident, don't be nervous. You need to come across as outgoing, hardworking, and a goal-getter.
- Describe a situation where you struggled to meet sales targets.
Store Manager
The interview process started with a recruiter call. Then, there was an onsite interview that involved behavioral questions. They asked about gaining cooperation from others, giving an example of a time you did that, the challenges, the outcome, and the long-term impact. They also asked for your best example of working cooperatively to achieve a goal, your role, and how much you interacted with others. They wanted to know about feedback you received from coworkers, how you responded, and any changes you made. They asked about a project you were responsible for that involved long-term interaction with people. They also asked how you've recognized and rewarded a team player. You were asked to describe a time you worked closely with others in a course, work experience, or extracurricular activity, how it went, and how you overcame difficulties. Finally, they asked about a personal problem where someone's help was important.
- What were your main duties?
- Can you describe a situation where you needed to get others to cooperate with you, including the obstacles you encountered, the results, and how it affected your future working relationship with that person?
- Could you share your best example of teamwork towards a significant objective, detailing the goal, your contribution, and your level of interaction with others?
Store Manager
A recruiter reached out about a virtual interview via HireVue, which I did. The recruiter then said he'd passed my info to the hiring manager and I should hear back in a couple weeks. Later, a store manager from the region called me, and we set up an in-person interview. That same day, he called back, admitted he'd overbooked himself and wanted to reschedule for Saturday, but he'd actually mixed me up with someone else. After I reminded him of our original interview time, he said he could still make it. On the interview day, he was 10 minutes late, joked about me being in the hot seat, and then went into super detailed explanations about the interview process, like I didn't know how to act. After asking about my background, he cut me off mid-sentence and asked why I wanted to be a retail consultant, even though I'd applied for a store manager role. When I pointed this out, he blamed the recruiter and said the jobs were basically the same. He then randomly asked questions that didn't touch on leadership or anything relevant to the job I thought I was applying for. Midway through, he decided I didn't have the required experience (despite the job description and my progress) and asked if I'd consider part-time sales. He was unprepared, hadn't reviewed my resume or the job details, and was rude and condescending. I didn't get hired, and I don't think my skills were fairly evaluated.
- Can you share an instance where you persuaded someone to make a purchase?
