Sales Representative
It was a pretty chill chat with the sales manager, just the two of us. He was pretty efficient and direct. I got there a little early, so we actually kicked off ahead of schedule. The whole thing took about 10 minutes. He asked two questions about my past work, one about why I'm interested in this company, and then about five personal questions that weren't really about the job itself.
- Can you start by telling me about yourself?
- What makes you want to work for US Cellular?
- How would you handle a situation like X?
Sales Leader
US Cellular has a pretty involved hiring process for Sales Leadership. You'll have to complete an assessment that takes about 5-8 hours, depending on your leadership level. The interview itself is a Performance Based Interview. This means you'll need to share specific examples of times you've shown certain skills or behaviors. You might interview with people at different levels, and some interviews after the main performance one will be more casual. Just be yourself and let your personality show—it's crucial to be a good fit for US Cellular, otherwise you'll be unhappy there, so don't pretend to be someone you're not.
- Can you explain the distinction between passion and enthusiasm, and provide examples of how you've exhibited both in past jobs?
Sales Operations
I skipped the phone interview and went straight to an in-person interview. I met with the hiring manager and a peer in two separate meetings. The hiring manager seemed surprised that none of the candidates knew about a book published about U.S. Cellular's corporate culture. The interview was mostly behavioral, with the hiring manager asking few questions about my work history. He also invaded my personal space, which was unusual for me as I'm generally easygoing. It was the most bizarre and worst interview I've ever had. Having a strong understanding and appreciation of U.S. Cellular's corporate culture seems essential to advance.
- The interviewer talked 90% of the time and asked very few questions.
