First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at USAA.
Financial Advisor
Applied through glassdoor and had to complete an online application and assessment that was supposed to take 30 minutes and it took 2 hours cause their website kept freezing. I got a phone interview, but the recruiter forgot about our appointment and had to reschedule. I was told this was a financial advisor roll and I had all the licenses I would need. I was told I needed to complete a background check and drug test within 3 days. This process was horrible because the 3rd party they used was completely unorganized. I did get a face to face interview about 2 weeks later. This again was rescheduled because USAA is also unorganized. In the interview I was told that this was for a sales job and not for a financial advisor. Of course I was unprepared for the sales questions and roll play. The did a bait and switch in the job discription. The recruiter was mysteriously no longer available to talk to after the interview. I called several times and left messages and never heard back. I got an email over a month later that said the position was filed and not to reply to the email. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY. If this is how they treat candidates I can only imagine how they treat employees. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM USAA.
- Can you share a situation where you had difficulty meeting your sales quota?
- Describe your most challenging sale.

Had a quick chat with the recruiter about my schooling, my job history, and why I'd be a good fit for USAA. Then, I went in for an in-person interview with two managers. One was mostly taking notes, and the other asked most of the questions. A few days after that, the recruiter told me I had cleared the background check stage, which involved a urine test and confirming the info on my resume.
- Sell me a cell phone.
- Describe a tough situation you handled using the situation/behavior/outcome method.

After applying, I got e-mailed 2 tests (1 behavioral and 1 math/skills) that I had 24 hrs. to complete and a very thorough online application which asked for my social security number and driver's license number, plus everything else. The application also included a release form, absolving USAA from any liability regarding the private info I was providing. I was uncomfortable giving this info and almost didn't proceed, but after 2 calls from HR, I did. After finishing, I got an email to schedule a phone interview. The phone interview was basic, giving me info about the company and position. The next step was the face-to-face interview with 2 wealth managers, lasting 1 hour. It was mostly behavioral questions and questions about my past jobs and strengths/weaknesses. At one point, I was given an object and told to sell it to them. They were pretty friendly and very upfront about the job's challenges.
- Could you sell me this object?
