Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at USA TODAY Co..
Product Manager
I was contacted stating I was a strong candidate and then asked to complete a questionnaire to learn more about my experience, salary expectations, and interest in the position, and to detail professional experiences relevant to the role. There were also 3 scenario-based questions asked, but the context was vague. I never had any phone interaction with the recruiter, all communication was via email, only to receive a templated rejection email from Dayforce. No acknowledgment of the time spent on the questionnaire. I found this screening process impersonal and lacking human touch.
- How would you use predictive modeling or machine learning to enhance personalization within a social product?
Product Manager
Communication was pretty bad. It started with a recruiter phone call, which was pretty standard. They told me I was a top candidate and wouldn't be left in the dark, but I was supposed to hear back in a few days and it ended up being three weeks. Then I had a phone interview with the hiring manager. After that, I heard nothing for two months despite trying to reach out multiple times. All I got was an automated response saying the position was filled. It was awful.
- Can you share some standard interview questions?
Product Manager
The process was pretty easy. I had a panel interview with three people first. Then, I had two more individual interviews. After that, they made me an offer.
- Can you describe how you've handled various scenarios in the past?
