First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at USA TODAY Co..
Financial Analyst
I went through 3 interviews spread across 3 weeks. First, I spoke with the hiring manager. Then, there was a second round with 3 of the hiring manager's colleagues, each interview lasting 30 minutes. Finally, I interviewed with a senior director. The entire process was pretty good, and they kept me updated. I was really hoping to get the job, and since the interviews were on Thursdays or Fridays, I always worried about having to wait through the weekend to hear back. But each time, I got a response within 24 hours, either to set up the next interview or with the job offer. The managers, even the senior director, made me feel welcome right away and seemed to really care about how I'd do.
- How do you feel about handling large datasets?
- Do you have experience with vlookups and pivot tables?
- Can you describe your background with Salesforce?
Financial Analyst
I submitted my application online via LinkedIn. A local recruiter reached out and scheduled a brief 15-minute call to verify I met the fundamental requirements. Following that, I had two more phone interviews with managers in the finance department. The final stage was an in-person interview where I met the director and the team I would be joining. This involved a one-hour discussion with the director, followed by a 15-minute meeting with the team.
- Can you walk me through your typical financial analysis workflow?
- Are you familiar with adhoc reporting and variance analysis?
- Do you foresee any issues with participating in virtual meetings?
Financial Analyst
First, there was a phone screen where I got asked finance stuff like journal entries, variance analysis, and pivot tables. Then, I had a 1:1 interview where we got to know each other. Finally, the third interview was a general phone chat with someone higher up who was out of state. The whole hiring thing went really well.
- Can you explain variance analysis?
