Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at US Postal Service.
Management Trainee
The first step was a 15-30 minute phone call with a recruiter from the university. They asked a mix of major-specific and general questions like 'tell me about yourself' and 'why USPS'. Then, there was a Skype interview with another HR person, which covered similar questions but was more in-depth. The final interview was a Skype call with the hiring manager for the role, and the questions were more focused on the specific job duties.
- Describe a situation where you took a risk that resulted in failure.
Maintenance Manager
applied online, then got a letter with the interview date and time. The interview was on time and date. The interviewers were not from the job location. They asked me maintenance questions about equipment, but didn't seem to know about the equipment's performance factors or capabilities.
- Who holds the primary responsibility for equipment performance and ensuring that mail is delivered to the customer on time?
Manager
Applicants often believe they have a realistic shot at this role. However, the decision on who gets hired seems to be predetermined before the interview even takes place. The hiring managers appear to communicate with each other, and the review board doesn't seem to have much impact. It looks like who you know is more important than your qualifications.
- Can you share how you prepared for this interview?
