First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at US Missile Defense Agency.
Intern
They had a list of premade questions that I believe were asked to every applicant. Included questions about some of the core MDA values like teamwork and leadership. It was mainly designed to get to know the applicant a bit better, as it was through the DoD SMART scholar program. I am awaiting an offer currently.
- Can you share an example of a time you worked in a team?
General Engineer
It was a 30-minute phone call for multiple engineering positions. One person asked questions while three others listened. They asked six general, situational questions with little feedback. I could ask questions afterward, but they weren't specific to any position. I asked about travel expectations and was told it varied greatly. Overall, it was friendly and as informative as possible given the circumstances.
- Could you tell me which program you would be interested in working on and the reasons for your choice?
- Can you describe a time you worked in an interdisciplinary team across different organizations to finish a project and what your part was?
- Tell me about a situation where you faced a problem that felt out of your control and how you handled it.
General Engineer
Applied online in late October, application closed in early November. Didn't see status update to "Referred", but HR contacted me about 10 weeks later for a phone interview. The interview was 20-30 minutes with 7 questions, same for everyone. 3 employees from the division and 1 HR member were on the call. All behavioral and pretty easy questions. They said HR would contact me in the following weeks about the outcome. It's been 3 weeks and still no word. I reached out to them and they were cool about explaining my application status. They mentioned that out of 22 openings for the program, no one had been hired yet. They also said the MDA has up to 6 months from the job closing date to decide, but it didn't seem like they'd take that long, just wanted to keep options open.
- What motivates your interest in working for the MDA?
IT Lead
The interview process was mainly focused on IT management and project management. They wanted to know about my experience leading teams, handling user/stakeholder requirements, and my plans for future development. There were 3 panel board members from different IT sections, and they all asked a variety of questions.
- Can you tell me about your experience leading IT teams?
- What were the success factors when extending network services to a GSU?
