They'll ask you to memorize a short script for one of their products. They tend to hire actors for this job because of the script. If you pass this first 'audition', you get a callback for a second interview. In the second interview, you and the other callbacks will sit while they talk about the company. Don't believe the paycheck estimates, they're exaggerated. Since it's a sales job, take the interview with a grain of salt, like a sales pitch.

It was an internship so the interview was pretty basic and informal. Heather from HR contacted me for an interview at the office. I met Lauren Melton, the creative director. We reviewed my portfolio and resume. He asked about my skills and background and what I hoped to get out of the job. He also told me about the company, their work, products, and the projects I'd be doing. It was quick but informative. They offered me the job soon after.

The interview process took two days. Day one involved presenting a piece of a sales pitch to the Director of HR and the local supervisor. If selected, a callback interview was scheduled for the next day. The callback was a group informational meeting with 18 candidates, where the Director of HR, supervisor, and an experienced sales rep discussed the company (US Jesco), the role, compensation (base pay of $50/day plus commission for beginners), and benefits. There are two shifts: 9 AM-3 PM and 3 PM-9 PM. The work could be in various stores within a 70-mile radius of Downtown Los Angeles. While setup/takedown wasn't the responsibility, candidates needed to arrive early for prep work like preparing vegetables. After the info session, candidates were interviewed individually. Questions focused on availability for training, script memorization, full-time capability, and willingness to travel. Candidates were told they'd be emailed by 6 PM regarding hiring decisions. I was not hired despite positive initial feedback and enthusiastic responses.

First, they'll have you read a script paragraph. If you can read, have the right availability, and don't look like a mess, they'll ring you back. Then, they'll do a sales pitch on the call, and they tend to exaggerate or even lie.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Would you be okay with earning solely through commission?
  • What makes you the ideal candidate for this role?
  • Given that we've interviewed many candidates and have limited openings, what sets you apart from the rest?
