First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at US Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
Analyst
The process was slow with many questions, but worthwhile if you put in the effort. Applied via USAjobs, tailored my resume to the role, and had a virtual interview with references. Getting a notification took a long time. The people were great, though.
- How would you handle challenges?
IT Specialist
So, I went through 2 interviews. The first one was kinda formal, a panel interview with 4 people – the hiring lead, someone from military, someone civilian from outside the department, and a contractor. The second one was more casual, just the hiring manager asking about leadership stuff to see what kind of leader I am and if I'd fit in with the group.
- How would you handle managing several projects at once?
General Engineer
I applied through USA Jobs and then got an email to set up a phone interview. It's a pretty formal process where they use a checklist to grade you, kind of like an Oral Board for a promotion in the federal system. Three people on the board will evaluate your answers and ask questions one by one. You get to ask your questions at the end.
- Can you describe how you handle stress?
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a stressful coworker.
- How do you manage heavy workloads?
