Behavioral Presentation

It was a panel interview, with some previous engineers who were in the recent graduate program, a recruiter, and a human resources representative. The vibe was pretty casual. The interviewers started by introducing themselves and giving a rundown of the company. After that, I went over my resume and experiences.

The interview process was very structured, with 8 (plus 1) questions asked by the hiring manager and a Senior Civil Engineer who alternated. They repeated a question once but didn't provide more details. I received a follow-up the same day, then another a week later with more information, and a final follow-up the week after that with no response. I found out I wasn't selected through USAJOBS.gov. I don't think I'd apply again because it felt disrespectful not to get a personal email or phone call rejection. In my experience, both interviewing others and being interviewed, it's common courtesy to inform all interviewees of the outcome, especially when they follow up.

USAJobs can be a bit confusing. Make sure you look for the “Direct Hire” postings. GS 11 is a staff level engineer and GS 12 is a project level engineer. If you don’t apply for the direct hire position it gets screened at Washington DC and you may be accidentally screened out even if you are qualified. One hour, virtual, simple questions.
