Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Urban Plates.
Front End Cashier
The manager took a while to interview me. It felt a bit too formal for a cashier role, even though the restaurant itself is upscale with high prices and quality.
- Can you tell me about a challenge you encountered and how you overcame it?
Cashier Hostess
The interview was short and to the point. I met with the General Manager and Head Chef. It felt like a formality to meet the second person because they both asked similar questions. They were both friendly and seemed more interested in getting to know me as a person than what was on paper.
- What's your experience working with people?
- What motivated you to work in the restaurant industry?
Greeter
I applied online and also came in and talked to them. They were super nice and let me know they were planning on interviewing me and then they called me a few days later to set up a time. When I went in for the interview, I met with the front of house manager and did most of the interview with her and then was introduced to the GM and got a job offer right away.
- Can you tell me about your team skills?
- What about your customer service skills?
Guest Service Team Member
The interview process was straightforward. I went in for two rounds of interviews total, one with the cashier and the other with the GM. The entire experience was fruitful and fluid and I would recommend applying to anyone interested in whole food eating and hospitality. They have an excellent team in La Jolla.
- What is your motivation for seeking employment at Urban Plates?
