First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Upwork.
Manager
The entire interview process spanned approximately one month. It began with a recruiter screening, followed by an interview with the hiring manager, and concluded with a remote video session with multiple team members. All interviewers were approachable, friendly, and enthusiastic about Upwork and its culture. The conversation-style interviews focused on my experience and included behavioral/situational questions, making me feel at ease and giving me a sense of the team dynamics. The process was seamless and positive overall.
- Can you share an example of a mistake you made and how you addressed it?
Risk Manager
My review is for an interview experience with Upwork talent innovation. I sent a proposal and a recruiter got in touch. My initial experience with the hiring manager and the recruiter had been great. After my interview, a follow-up assignment came through and I was asked to submit it within 24 hours. This assignment involved solving a few scenarios that Upwork had encountered. I completed and submitted them on time. That was the last I heard from them, and it's been over 2.5 months. I followed up a few times with no response. I understand that not everyone is a good fit or Upwork might have different priorities. However, not closing the interview communication loop after an interview, especially when a candidate has invested time in interviews and exhaustive assignments, is a bad experience, even for freelancers or contractors.
- Were there basic questions about job fit?
- Were there any behavioral questions asked?
- Were there any situation-based questions?
Manager
After I applied, Elance-oDesk got back to me in a few days. We emailed back and forth to set up an interview. The interview itself went well, and the Hiring Manager asked standard questions about my background and experience with management tools. I asked about the next steps, and she mentioned I'd hear back in a few days because the hiring process was quick, aiming to fill the role within two weeks. I emailed the recruiting coordinator to thank her, and she also said I'd hear back within the week. A week later, I hadn't heard anything, so I emailed the recruiting consultant. No reply. I waited another week and emailed again to show I was still interested. Still no response. A few days later, I contacted the Hiring Manager to inquire about my status or if the position was still available. Nothing. Overall, they were pleasant but lacked consistent communication and professionalism, which could be improved.
- Could you tell me about the queuing tools you've used before?
