Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Upstart.
Credit Analyst
The interview process was very thorough, yet everybody I talked to was extremely friendly. Stage 1: I had a great chat with Claudia Pouani. She was very friendly and energetic. She was great and explained the position in detail. Her uplifting energy expressed the environment of Upstart. Stage 2: I met with Kenneth Skeaton and Chelcy Roberts. The two interviews went on for 30 minutes respectively. They were extremely accommodating and they asked comprehensive questions to make sure that I understood what was expected in the position. Overall a great interview process.

Applied online and got an email from an interviewer who was supposed to do the phone screen. They sent a link to pick a time, and I confirmed it and got an email confirmation. But on the day of the call, the interviewer didn't show up and didn't reply to my follow-up email. I was ghosted. The next day, I got an email with a weak excuse that they called and my phone was off, but that never happened because my phone was on and I was waiting for the call. Super unprofessional, feels like there's no real HR team handling this. The employees seem lazy and quick to blame others.
- The interviewer didn't show up for the phone interview.

Initial phone screen followed by a more thorough phone interview. The last stage was a Zoom interview with 3 different hire ups at Upstart, 30 minutes each. It was a relatively easy process and it was quick as well, took about 3 weeks. Claudia Pouani was an amazing recruiter and she couldn't have made my first impression with the company any better, thank you Claudia!
- What was the most recent book you finished?
- Tell me about a time you had to resolve a failure at work.
- What's your motivation for working at Upstart?
