Behavioral Presentation

I saw the job posting online but didn't hear back, so I reached out to someone on staff via a mutual connection. That same day, a recruiter got in touch. First, there was a call with the head of talent, then another call with the President, and finally an onsite meeting with those two plus the current Design Director. The whole thing moved really fast. My background wasn't a perfect fit for the role, but they seemed more interested in my mindset and management skills than my technical abilities. It was a great experience, and I was bummed to not get the offer. Everyone was really nice, had good energy, and the President's passion for the brand was really inspiring. Since they said I was one of only a few candidates, I wish I'd known what the other candidate had that made them a better fit.

Applied online and a week later got a writing assessment on social media post ideas. The next day, had a 20-30 min phone chat with Marketing about my background and interest in Upside. The day after, I had 3 in-person meetings with marketing folks and HR. These were relaxed but useful chats where I could show my personality and talk more about my experience and how I work. HR mentioned a decision soon, and by the end of that week, I heard back that I didn't get the job. It was a chill but engaging process that seemed to reflect the company culture well.

After I had applied two months before, the internal recruiter reached out via email to schedule a phone interview, suggesting some dates and times. I responded, and she arranged it. The interview happened two days later. The interviewer called precisely on time and was very polite and professional. She mentioned a follow-up within a couple of days, and indeed, I got an email within two days stating I wasn't selected to move forward. Despite my disappointment, Upside was courteous and professional throughout.

It was a very quick and typical interview. In total, it lasted just over 30 minutes, and I felt like I was being rushed off the phone at the end. I followed up quickly after the interview, but it's been a month now, so it's obvious Upside found other candidates. I wish I'd gotten some feedback or at least an email saying I didn't get the job. All communication stopped after the phone screening, which I wasn't happy about.
