First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Uphold.
QA Analyst
The whole process was quick and feedback was fast. I had an initial chat with HR where they asked general questions about my background. Then, I had a technical interview with the VP of Engineering and one of the QA leads. We talked about creating test cases and doing exploratory tests. Finally, I interviewed with one of the C-level execs.
- Which of the provided test cases would you include in a regression test suite?
- How would you conduct exploratory tests?
Crypto Engineer
The interview process was super quick, straightforward, and respectful. It started with a recruiter chat, asking a couple of basic engineering questions. Then, I got a take-home assignment to build a simple bot with Node.js within 72 hours. They gave me feedback fast and set up a technical interview for the next week. That went well—we talked about engineering stuff, my background, and company questions. The hiring manager was really thoughtful, making me more excited. Two days later, I had a final chat with the CTO about cultural and behavioral fit, which also went smoothly. I got the green light then and an offer the following week. All in all, the process was efficient, clear, and genuinely humane. I felt respected throughout, and the quick communication made it a really positive experience.
- Could you share your past experience building APIs for blockchain or crypto?
- What's your background working with TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and Golang?
- Can you describe your experience with various public blockchains?
Full Stack Developer
I first spoke with HR, who was very nice and cheerful. After they said I seemed like a good fit, I got a coding challenge for the backend role. Once I submitted it and gave them collaborator access to the GitHub repo, they sent me another challenge for the frontend role because they were also hiring for that and wanted to see where I'd fit best as a full-stack candidate. I completed that one too and gave them collaborator access again. It took about 20 days, and neither invite was accepted. I reached out to the HR person, who apologized and asked me to resend the invites, which I did. They were accepted this time, and she promised an update by a specific date. That day came and went with no news. I followed up a few days later, but then got a generic email saying I wasn't a good fit. It felt like I was begging for information, and I just wanted to understand the company's values and how much longer they'd drag this out. The worst part is spending so many hours on both challenges, doing all the required parts and even the extras.
- Can you share what motivates you?
- Can you talk about your past experiences?
GRC
So, I applied for this role, and the initial communication was really good and professional, which was a plus. The people I interviewed with knew their stuff and gave me some good insights into the job and the company. But, after the last interview, I heard nothing back, not even feedback, even when I followed up. It was pretty unprofessional and frustrating not knowing what was going on or when a decision would be made. Management should really work on keeping candidates in the loop better. Give people updates, even if it's just to say things are taking longer. Everyone deserves to feel like they matter, no matter the outcome, so better communication is key.
