The interview process was mostly conducted over the phone, with a brief in-person meeting towards the end. It was fairly casual and enjoyable. The in-person meeting was primarily for signing paperwork and addressing any questions about the temporary employee onboarding process. It wasn't a particularly demanding process. The client's needs seemed more critical at this stage than Update Legal's.

I saw a Craigslist ad for recent law grads to do document review, posted by a legal recruiting firm. After they confirmed I met the basic requirements, they called to schedule an interview. I got an application via email to fill out before the interview and was told to bring my social security card and driver's license. The interview was in their NYC office, easy to get to. The waiting area was nice with comfy couches. I filled out tax forms and gave them my references' contact info, then waited about 10 minutes. My interviewer was really friendly and easy to chat with. She asked standard questions about my education, work history, and other skills on my resume. It felt like they genuinely wanted to find the best fit for me, not just fill a role. She thanked me and said they'd be in touch by phone. They were really quick to respond, and I felt involved the whole time. Update Legal and its staff really cared, which is rare for a recruiting firm. As a new grad, their laid-back, helpful approach made me feel less stressed. It was a really pleasant experience, unlike most interviews.

You have to register with the agency by filling out all the standard employment forms. An interviewer will ask about your experience and what you're looking for. Then, you'll be added to the database, and you'll get an email if/when a review project comes up.

It felt too hurried and vague about the job. They were looking for people to fit a client niche and were quick to dismiss candidates unlikely to be selected for a project. Then, many weeks passed before any feedback was given. Each project would have a similar process.
