First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University Partners.
Leasing Consultant
Super easy and basic questions, they ask about your experience and availability. It is also a personality screening because you have to be personable in order to give apartment tours and talk to people on the phone. It is a good way to get to know the manager so definitely ask them some questions too.
- What's your leasing experience?
Manager
I applied for a job that really interested me at University Partners. The company seemed great, with properties, culture, and an overall vibe I liked. Things started well, with two interviews scheduled back-to-back right after I applied. I felt good about both of them and sent a follow-up email. But then... nothing. No response, no updates, not even a 'thanks for your time.' I get that not every interview leads to a job, but the lack of communication is tough. A simple follow-up or rejection email would give candidates closure. It was worse seeing the job posted again or finding out via LinkedIn that someone else got hired, with no word to us. It’s disappointing, especially after putting in time and enthusiasm. In this tough job market, companies that care about culture should show that in their hiring. University Partners, please have your recruiters communicate better. Respect and professionalism matter, and a simple acknowledgment makes a big difference. Most of us can handle a 'no' – it’s the silence that’s hard.
- Can you describe your approach to managing a team?
Property Accountant
I talked with Higher management, my reporting manager, HR, and a Senior Accountant. Marketing was supposed to be there but was unavailable. The first interview was virtual. About a week later, I went into the office and spoke with 3 people individually. It was less nerve-wracking because they weren't all in the room together. Everyone answered my questions at the end and gave details about the company culture, which was great. HR kept asking about me being a mother and my previous pregnancy, which made me feel a bit uneasy. It felt like they thought being a mom returning to work would be hard. I also never got a rejection email, even though HR said I'd hear back in a week. It's been 3 weeks now. Maybe I wasn't the right cultural fit, but an email would have been nice. I really dislike ghosting from companies. Higher management also asked if I was ready to be back at work or if I'd rather be a stay-at-home mom again, which was a weird question since I applied for the job.
- Can you tell me about yourself, your hobbies, and walk me through your resume?
- Could you describe the company culture?
- Do you feel ready to return to work, or do you think you might want to be a stay-at-home mom in the future?
Leasing Consultant
I applied for a part-time leasing consultant job at two places around the same time. It took a month to hear back and get an interview. For the first place, I had two rounds of interviews but never heard back. After interviewing at the second place, I was told I'd have to wait for more interviews because the job opening was still active. This went on for 3 more months. I talked with the manager a lot during this time and they kept giving me new timelines for when a decision would be made. Finally, after 4 months of empty promises and confusing information about the job, I was rejected. They didn't even send me a rejection letter until I asked for one. During the interview process, I thought I had a good shot since it's an entry-level job and pays minimum wage, but in the end, they changed the requirements to needing a bachelor's degree. It was a really unprofessional process, and I never felt like my time was valued.
- Can you tell us about your strengths and weaknesses?
- What makes you a good fit for this position?
- What motivates you to apply for this role?
