Assistant Admissions Director
I submitted my online application in late April 2025. About 3.5 weeks later, I had a 30-minute initial phone meeting with four members of the hiring committee. Ten days after that, I went in for a final in-person interview. This lasted three hours and involved meeting with six different stakeholder teams. They told me I'd get a decision within a week, but I ended up getting a generic rejection email six weeks later.
- Can you introduce yourself and explain what unique value you offer for this position?
Research and Technology Coordinator
It was a straightforward process. Initially, I had an in-person interview with the team. We talked about me and my background, followed by some technical questions related to the job. If that went well, the next step was an interview with the director, focusing on time management and how I approach understanding processes.
- How do you prioritize tasks?
Assistant Professor
The interview was on Zoom and was quite pleasant and straightforward. Several faculty members asked questions about my background, research interests, and potential contributions to the program. It lasted about 30 minutes with a good back-and-forth discussion about the position and the department's future. The questions weren't too hard.
- In what ways does your background match the requirements of the role?
- Could you elaborate on your research interests?
- How do you envision contributing to our program?
Software Engineer
Got an email from UW-Milwaukee for a phone screening. A recruiter talked to me, asking basic stuff about my background and experience. They told me about the company's mission and values and more about the role. They also asked why I wanted the job and what I could bring. Then, I got invited for an in-person interview at their HQ. I spent a few days prepping, looking up the company and practicing answers. On the day, I went to the office and met the recruiter again. They took me to a conference room for an interview with a panel of three: the hiring manager, the marketing director, and a senior marketing specialist. It was about an hour long. They asked a bunch of questions about my experience, skills, and personality. They wanted to hear about a tough situation at work and how I handled it. They also asked how I'd tackle an engineering challenge. The interview felt good, and I was keen on working there. A few days later, I got a job offer, which I accepted happily.
- Tell me about your software engineering experience.
- Describe a project you're especially proud of.
- How do you stay current with new technologies in the field?
