Director, Career Services
The interview process involves an all-day event including a one-hour presentation to the campus community. You'll meet with administration, students, faculty, and staff, as well as office staff. Prepare for a long day filled with great conversations! Your presentation should focus on a relevant issue in higher education, and bringing along reference materials and handouts would be beneficial.
- How would you manage the required level of services for students, alumni, and employers?
Director
So I started my day in the president's office with them and the CFO and COO. One of them barely looked at me, and another one seemed a bit more interested but still not really into it. At some point, they asked me what I thought the job was about. I later found out the actual job description and what they were looking for didn't really match up, which probably explains why the whole day wasn't about my experience creating and running online ed divisions in academia and business. Instead, it felt like they were trying to trick me or find contradictions. Except for a couple of people, it wasn't a process where smart, experienced people treated each other with respect, whether it was for my knowledge, my experience, or just basic politeness.
- There's no single correct way to approach this, is there?
Athletic Trainer
I talked to the Head Athletic Trainer first, and then the Athletic Director. I already knew the Head Athletic Trainer, and he helped me set up how the interview process would go.
- What led you to pursue athletic training as a career?
- Why are you interested in working with a Division II institution like this one?
- Can you tell me about your strengths?
Career Counselor
I had a 5-hour interview where I met with supervisors from different departments. I also gave a 20-minute presentation. It was a professional setting, and I spoke with the supervisors about why I wanted to work there.
- In what ways do you see this role fitting into your overall career path?
