University of New Haven Interview Questions
& Process

The interview process really depends on the department you're applying to, but honestly, the biggest thing is just keeping your GPA solid in the coursework for that program. A really good academic record shows you're serious and actually get the material, which is what they're looking for.

This was for the Tow Youth Justice Institute which is affiliated with UNH. The interview was really unprofessional. I was supposed to have a Zoom interview with 2 people, not including the hiring manager I had been emailing with. One of them was 15 minutes late and didn't say sorry or explain why. They didn't introduce the job or their roles much. The two women interviewing me weren't even paying attention to my answers, they kept turning off their screen and mic. I wasn't surprised they ghosted me without a response or follow-up because the interview was so unprofessional. In the future, at least pretend to be engaged with people who took time out of their day to meet with you.

I applied by sending an email and got a reply back in a few weeks asking me for an interview. The department's office administrator set up a meeting for me with the faculty search committee. On the interview day, she handled getting my parking permit from the campus police, which was helpful so I didn't have to deal with it myself. I first met with the department chair and we chatted about my past work and academic background. Then, I met the search committee, which included a professor from each specialization in the department. After introductions, they asked me to talk about my work experience. They then asked me some questions about my experience with education and some specific to the job's responsibilities. I got to ask them some questions, though a couple had to be passed on to HR. After that, one committee member gave me a tour of the facility, and we talked more about the job, the facilities, and the university. Then we finished. About a week later, we emailed, and I arranged a time with an HR person to get a clear understanding of the pay and benefits.

It was a really involved interview process. I met with 5 different people on the same day and then we did a campus tour. They gave me a ton of info about the job, but I was bummed I didn't get an offer. I felt like the vibe was off during the interviews and it seemed a bit misleading. The questions weren't super hard though, and everyone was friendly.
