Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of Missouri.
Director
The initial description of the position in the interviews was very different than what the job and the co-worker situation actually turned out to be. After making an expensive and difficult move across the country for the job, I discovered in the first month the expectations were a moving target and unrealistic and that supervisors had no idea how to evaluate my type of work (research for businesses).
- What is your experience with incompetent supervisors?
- Tell me about dealing with vitriolic gatekeepers who perpetuate groupthink on the management team.
- Describe a time when there was a complete lack of trust and no real collaboration.
Director
The interview process and hiring managers were great. HR required 5 references before the final interview stage, but I didn't get an offer. Requiring that many references is taxing to those who serve as references and should only be extended under the anticipation of an offer. Would not recommend.
- What would my first 3 months on the job look like.
Director
It was an in-person interview, very thorough and professional. The hiring team was thoughtful, inclusive, and professional. They asked good and relevant questions. They gave me the chance to ask questions and clear information about the next steps.
- In your first year, how would you plan to enhance our institution?
