First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of Michigan Health-West.
Registered Nurse
This was for a New Grad position, and it was a HireVue recorded interview. I never heard back from them at all, not even an email. They asked recorded questions.
- What specialties are you interested in?
- How have your experiences prepared you?
Clinical Document Specialist
The interview process was easy. HR called for an initial screening, then the hiring manager reached out. But the HM interview was ridiculous. It was supposed to be one-on-one, but when I got there, I only had seconds to prepare for a panel of five. The interview felt like an interrogation, and then they ghosted me. It was a waste of time. This job has been posted for over 6 months, and if they treat everyone this way, I'm not surprised it's still open.
- Can you tell me about your experience and walk me through your resume?
- Could you explain what this particular item on your resume signifies?
Patient Care Technician
I was contacted about two weeks after applying and had an interview scheduled with the nurse manager. She was kind and asked questions like how did you deal with difficult patients and what kind of experience you have. She gave me a tour of the unit and introduced me to many of the other employees.
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult patient.

It took 1 month and 2 days to complete the process, including 4 interviews and some negotiation, which I feel was worth it. The HR department seemed a bit confused about everything happening during the process, but they were short-handed at the time, and the whole interview process was done in reverse. Other than that, the interview process was not to be taken lightly, but it was a great experience.
- Can you tell me why you left your previous jobs?
- What made you choose Metro Health?
- Describe your ideal manager.
