Operations Manager
Great! Could you let me know the name of the company and a few key points you'd like to highlight? For example, you could mention the quality of their products or services, customer service experience, or anything specific that stood out to you. This will help me craft a review that's both genuine and personalized.
- Could you tell me a little about yourself?
Research Assistant
I interviewed for a Ph.D. doctoral program on-site. You interview with several PIs as well as directors of the programs. My interviews took place in person but I understand they're doing some interviews virtually now, post-pandemic. Dress to impress regardless of the format of your interview and be prepared to ask questions. There are lots of people interviewing for a limited number of spots so memorable interviews will greatly increase your chance of receiving an offer letter.
- Considering doctoral programs are challenging and no one is perfect, what is one area you believe you might struggle with if admitted to this program?
Student Affairs
I applied to the school of nursing twice. The first time, it went so well I had my resignation letter ready. The hiring manager said she'd be in touch in 24-48 hours, and she had called me right when I applied, so I believed her. After chasing her, I never heard back. My friend who worked there let me know they hired someone else. A few years later, I tried again for a job I was excited about and got called back right away. The hiring manager was the same person and remembered me. The panel interview was a joke; they just read questions verbatim. They didn't talk or discuss anything. When I mentioned their mission statement and student focus, they seemed offended. The hiring manager and I clashed over our views on Student Success. To top it off, they told me the salary was way below my request, and HR shouldn't have even called me. That school is a joke, don't work there.
- What are your current job responsibilities?
Director
When you get here, you'll meet with the selection committee (usually 2-3 folks, including the hiring manager and someone from HR). The team lead will give you the rundown and mention that your answers will be recorded for review later. Don't stress about the recording – it's standard practice and helps them make a solid call afterward. Then, the committee will start asking questions to gauge your expertise, skills, and if you're a good fit. They might ask direct questions needing specific answers, open-ended ones that are more about how you think, situational questions about how you'd handle a scenario, and behavioral questions asking about past experiences.
- Can you share an example of a time you faced a certain situation and how you handled it?
