The interview involved a presentation of my research, then technical questions about my research area, PhD, and the role's research area. It lasted about 30 minutes with 4 people. No personal questions were asked. It felt more like a viva/interrogation than an interview. Some questions about my research and presentation were unprofessional, like questioning the purpose of my research or if I made my slides myself. This was different from other positive interviews at the same institution. It was as difficult as other research associate interviews I've had.

So, the interview process at the University of Cambridge is pretty intense and super important for getting in. You first have to submit your application through UCAS, which means getting your personal statement, references, and grades in. The whole process took about a week. I got an invite for an interview a few days after applications closed. It was a half-hour interview. There were three people on the panel: the PI, a post-doc, and a collaborator. They were all super nice and made me feel welcome. They gave me a math problem to solve an hour before the interview. I had to write down my solution on paper and also submit the code for it 15 minutes before the interview started. Then, I had to walk them through my solution. They also presented a scenario and asked me to suggest a suitable distribution for modeling that type of data. The questions were very technical, focusing on fundamental statistics, but also related to the specific project.
