First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of California - Office of the President.
Network Engineer
HR emailed me that I was selected for the initial screening and asked me to answer a questionnaire. Then the hiring manager emailed a week after and scheduled me for a phone screen (no video). She just asked a bunch of situational verbatim questions that she reads and it was not casual but almost robotic. It was like as if I was in a pageant contest and I had to answer it eloquently because this was the type of interview where you will get to the next step if you have the gift of gab and nevermind your technical skillset. Then I never heard from them again.

- What experience do you have designing and managing complex network infrastructures, including working with routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers?
Product Manager
The interview process was very thorough. It was well-organized and thoughtful. Connie, the Senior Technical Recruiter, was a standout and absolute star. She is professional, kind, and very good at her job. 1. First Interview - A manager and Technical Recruiter 2. Second Interview - Four-person panel of Directors 3. Third Interview - Four-person panel (various) 4. Fourth Interview - Meet and greet with the Executive Director This was followed by reference checks, a verbal offer, a background check, and a written offer. Overall, I am very confident the process was well vetted and emphasis was put on making the right decision.
- Can you provide an instance of workplace ambiguity and explain your approach to managing it?
- Could you describe an interaction with a challenging client and how you navigated it?
- Could you discuss some of your recent projects?
Operations Coordinator
I had a quick 15 minute phone chat with a team member who asked some basic questions. After that, they sent me a short Excel exercise to do before the second and last interview. This one was a 1 hour Zoom call with 4 people on the panel, including the hiring manager. Everyone was super friendly and it was a really thorough and structured interview. Both chats were super fast and organized.
- Could you explain what sustainability means to you?
- How would you handle managing priorities that conflict with each other?
Legal Support Specialist
The interview process had a panel first and second rounds. It takes a few months overall as a skills assessment is done first before you move to the first round of interviews. Both attorneys and support staff will be present on the panel and the panels are no more than 5 people typically. Interviews are difficult and challenging no matter how well you're prepared and particularly if you really want the position. It's best to bring your a-game each time, smile so you appear friendly and ask questions so you come across as interested in the position and not simply a paycheck.
- How do you manage your organization to meet deadlines?
