Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of British Columbia.
Business Analyst
It was a really good process designed to find the right person. They asked a mix of easy and challenging questions, and gave enough time to think. Make sure you have plenty of examples from the last five years.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your experience over the last five years?
Business Analyst
I had a 1-hour interview with the hiring manager, a team member, and HR. Immediately after, HR sent a 1-hour take-home test with two questions about handling a hypothetical business scenario. That same day, the hiring manager, impressed by my skills, asked for three references, including one from my current manager. I explained I couldn't provide my current manager's contact due to not having an offer and not wanting to jeopardize my relationship, so I gave former managers' contacts instead. The hiring manager contacted my references, then went silent for a week. Today, HR informed me another candidate was selected.
- Can you share your background as a business analyst?
Business Analyst
I applied for BA roles at UBC twice recently. The first time, I spoke with a recruiter, then was supposed to talk to a management consultant, but they never showed up. Me and the recruiter just chatted for a bit. I emailed them to reschedule, and they got back to me a week later saying they were busy. Then they ghosted me. The second time, UBC HR contacted me for an initial chat. I then talked to two senior BAs and got ghosted again. I'm writing this review now because they've reached out twice more for BA positions in the last month. I'm guessing they'll ghost me again, so I plan to take their calls, set up interviews, and then just not show up. Forget them.
- Can you tell me about your experience with deploying large enterprise education ERP systems?
