Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of Alberta.
Research Assistant
The interview process usually has a few steps to check out your background, skills, and if you're a good fit. First, you submit your resume or CV. Then, there's an initial screening, which is a quick phone or video call with HR or a recruiter to chat about your qualifications, what you expect for salary, and when you can start.
- Can you complete a practical task for the technical/panel interview?
- Can you complete a coding test for the technical/panel interview?
- Can you give a presentation as part of the technical/panel interview?
Research Assistant
The interview process was straightforward and easy. The interviewer was pleasant and professional, and the whole thing was over pretty quickly. They just asked some typical questions about my background and previous work.
- Can you describe your previous experiences?
- What makes you interested in this particular role?
- What makes you a suitable candidate for this position?
Research Assistant
I was interviewed by four people, who were part of the team who wanted the assistant. They seemed fairly new in the interview process, as the questions were phrased awkwardly and seemed to go like "Are you willing to do ___" instead of asking about previous experiences. I still tried to crowbar in relevant experience to the position though just to make sure to make note that I was qualified.
- Are you willing and able to learn how to use Catia software?
- Do you have any vacation plans?
- Could you give us a general idea of how you would decide which parts/sub assemblies to use in a design?
