First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
Patient Support
It started with a phone call where I had to create notes based on a conversation with a rude patient. Then there were interview questions about what I know about the department and the role, some 'Tell me about a time...' questions, and queries about how I stay organized and if I'm a team player. It was a lengthy interview process.
- How do you keep yourself organized?

It was ridiculous. We had a recruiter call, then some apple questions, and a presentation. Then an onsite where they asked '10 uses for a pencil?', 'What hobbies do you have?', and 'Describe yourself in 3 words.'. Also, 'What would you do if you came to work and noone was here?'.
- Can you describe a TV advert that is about you?
Patient Pathway Coordinator
You need a really strong application to begin with that highlights the trust values and matches the job and person spec! I've had 4 interviews for different departments and the process is pretty much the same for all - you'll get an email about the outcome about 2/3 days after the closing date. If they invite you for an interview, it'll either be 2 or 3 people on the panel, all taking notes, and you'll either have an Excel/Word test or just questions. They usually ask about 7/8/9 questions chosen for the role. It's very competency-based and scored on a points system, so the more you say, the better! Obviously, keep it all relevant! The people are lovely, and the role involves a lot of responsibility, like putting patients first, managing workload/prioritizing well, good communication skills, and IT/systems knowledge, so they really emphasize that! Difficulty is average to harder, depending on your research. Just stay smiley, enthusiastic, and really research the department and what they specialize in... Good luck!
- Can you tell us what you understand this role to entail and your reasons for applying?
- What is your understanding of our department?
- Could you provide an instance where you effectively contributed as a team player?

I knew the interview date when I applied, which was super helpful for planning. I applied online through Trac and could track my application status without having to call HR. The interview was on Teams with three interviewers. There was a separate assessment too, also done remotely, and I didn't need to prep for it. They were quick to let me know the outcome. Overall, a really good experience with the interview process.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to handle competing deadlines and explain how you managed it?
