First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University College Cork.
Research Assistant
After I applied, the project manager reached out within two weeks. The interview was a 30-minute video call with three people: the project manager and two principal investigators. They asked me to get ready a 15-minute presentation on my past research. I got an offer the next day. Just so you know, the interview process and how long it takes can change based on the specific projects and research teams.
- Can you answer technical questions related to the research presented?
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
PR Assistant
They asked for my CV and a short motivational paragraph first. Then, there was a short fifteen-minute online interview with three questions. They inquired about my previous experience and my calendar, as the role is for PhD students who need to balance it with their research.
- Could you share some of your past work examples with us?
Research Support Officer
It was a panel interview, pretty straightforward. We started with a presentation. The panel had my potential direct manager, another person from the same department, and someone from a different department. They asked situational questions, plus some questions about my CV and the requirements for the job.
- Describe a time you faced workplace conflict and how you resolved it.
Sexual Violence Prevention Manager
The initial shortlisting and interview confirmation took a while, and they messed up my email confirmation, which accidentally revealed another candidate's details, causing confusion and distress. The interview panel itself was nice and the process was handled well, but there was a technical glitch on their end. They fixed it quickly, but it was still a bit unnerving. They didn't check beforehand if I needed any accommodations, even though I'd told them I have a disability, and they asked some really long, multi-part questions. After the interview, there was zero communication, which is really bad form.
- Can you tell me about your experience managing a work package and how you've dealt with difficult people?
- Describe an instance where you developed a policy that became successfully integrated into operations.
