I sent in my CV and a cover letter that I'd made sure was a good fit for the job. Then, about two weeks later (cause of holidays and stuff), I had a Zoom call with two people who might be my supervisors, and then got the job offer the very next day.

The discussion concluded with a conversation about visa arrangements.

It really depends on the lab, you know? So first, they wanted me to talk about a past project I worked on. Then there was this technical review where they asked me some basic questions about the field and had me write some math stuff on the whiteboard. After that, there was a coding test, they wanted me to code a model on the whiteboard to solve a problem. We had lunch, and then I chatted with the team about the future project and got to ask them questions.

First, you need to meet the eligibility criteria to be a PhD Student at the University of Montreal. The application is done online, and it's in French, which might be a challenge if you don't speak the language, but Google Translate can help. Make sure to follow the steps carefully and submit all required documents. After that, you'll need to apply to the specific lab or department you're interested in. I reached out to MILA via email, sending my resume, cover letter, research interests, and the names of professors I'd like to have as supervisors. If they're interested, they'll contact you to schedule an interview, which for me was on Skype.
